Pre Shipment Inspection - Import Verification
SGS-IVP programmes enable the proper identification of goods prior to shipment, with regards to quality, quantity, tariff classification, import eligibility and the provision of valuation information for customs purposes. These programmes allow for the correct assessment of import duties and taxes by Customs to the advantage of both government and trade. Since 1965, over 40 countries have adopted SGS programmes to protect government finances and/or facilitate trade. Currently SGS holds 21 mandates for IVP programmes which incorporate a large array of services both in the country of export and import. If you are exporting to one of such countries you can refer to the respective  Data Sheet for the Trade which specifies all pertinent import regulations.

Import verification programmes are the modern evolution of traditional pre-shipment inspection which, through the use of innovative approaches and tools, can achieve even higher cost-effectiveness and benefits.

SGS Guidelines for Exporters provide a general overview of the SGS Import Verification Programme (IVP) which SGS is mandated to implement by several governments to verify their country's imports. Guidelines for Exporters is now available in English, French,  Spanish and  Russian.
